August 31 is the longest day of the year.

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

It is when you’re a kid whose birthday is September 1, at any rate.
Lydia has been so keyed up all day about her birthday tomorrow that she’s only just now fallen asleep, at nearly midnight on a school night. Somehow I don’t think she’ll have any trouble getting up tomorrow, though.

Monday

Monday, August 28th, 2006

I don’t know if it’s writer’s block or ennui or just plain laziness, but I feel as though I’ve got absolutely nothing to say lately. I haven’t posted anything of substance here for far too long, and I’ve been more or less ignoríng my email. I owe long, thoughtful emails to at least four or [...]

Three-kid Circus

Moments before Petra grabbed Lydia’s earring and nearly ripped it out of her ear.  Much screaming ensued, Tage’s hand was stomped in in the melee, and nothing’s been quite the same since.

Best Present EVER!

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

You’ll all remember this post, surely, in which I detailed Lydia’s yearning for this season’s “it” footwear, Crocs. Taking pity on her eldest grandchild, my mother searched out a pair-paying less than half of what they’d have cost in Sweden–and sent them winging across the Atlantic via USPS Express Mail. You can tell me this doesn’t make you smile …

Who Moved My Bonbons?

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

At long last we’re getting some of that rain that everyone in southern Sweden has been bragging complaining about for the past couple of weeks. It’s been coming down off and on all day, which is fantastic for both my mood and my lawn. It was still wretchedly muggy earlier today, but [...]

Extra, extra

We went live this morning with a brand-new issue of Mosaic Minds. There’s some really great stuff there this time, so give it a look!

Long Time

Monday, August 14th, 2006

It’s shameful the way I’ve neglected my blog lately, and I assure you that I am indeed ashamed. I can’t say for sure what’s kept me from posting. We have been pretty busy with friends and family and home improvements and Mosaic Minds and getting ready for back-to-school/back-to-work and various other activities, but [...]

Ice Cream Sunday

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

When I was a kid, grade-school age, my mom studied at a college in a town two hours’ drive from where we lived. (Sidenote: when I got old enough to drive it myself, I discovered that the drive really takes most people only one hour, but my mom’s leisurely manner of driving is a [...]
