Our old friend, the idiopathic stabbing headache, is playing a return engagement, showing up just behind my left ear last Wednesday evening and apparently hell-bent on staying on, despite having worn out its welcome days ago. Fucker.
I have found an over-the-counter migraine medication that keeps the pain at bay relatively well, but it makes me terribly groggy in the process. It’s five o’clock in the evening right now, and so far I’ve spent more hours asleep today than awake. It’s that bad.
Also not ideal, pain-medication-wise, is that I’m supposed to take a pill only every four hours, but the stabs comes back after about three-and-three-quarters hours. On top of that, it takes a half-hour or so for the medicine to kick in, so I spend about forty-five minutes of every four hours feeling like someone is bashing me in the head at unpredictable intervals with a ball-peen hammer. I’m feeling pretty sorry for myself right now.
I’m sorry you’re having these awful headaches. Is there something you can use in between the doses of your migraine medication? I learned last year about alternating ibuprofen and acetaminofen. You can take a dose of Tylenol two hours after you’ve taken Motrin. Maybe a pharmacist could recommend something that you could use to bridge the gap. I hope the aches go away immediately. To quote Kipper, “Get well now.”
Sorry to hear your headaches are back 🙁
Which migraine medicine are you using? What works really well for me (though I know we don’t have the same type of migraine – yours is considered a headache, right?) is Maxalt. You could give it a try. It’s prescription-only though I think. My migraine usually comes back at least once but only after 12 hours or so.
Hope you get well soon
Ok, Sister, this is what I know (and you know me and my affiliation with the migrain):
you, know what, I’m putting it on my Blog…go seem me there! 😀
I have Maxalt too, and it is the best Iv’e tried so far! For the first time my migraine actually goes away, it doesn’t just get a little less bad as I was used to (had Naproxen before). I get tired and sometimes goes to bed for a few hours after taking Maxalt, but it wears off and then the pain is completely gone! Don’t settle for a medicine that doesn’t work for you, there are so many kinds! Maxalt is a bit expensive, but it is sooo wotrh it to have the pain really go away.
