Yrsa was five months old last Tuesday, and we’ve got to thinking about starting her on solid foods. We’re in no great hurry, mostly because we’re going on a ten-day trip at the end of the month, and it’s easier all the way around if we don’t have to mess around with baby food while we’re gone. Still, she has shown some interest in what’s on our plates, and there’s always a bit of fun to be had in giving them their first bites, so I mixed up a bowl of baby cereal the other day and we gave it a whirl. As usual, it was a messy business, and she wasn’t quite sure what we were up to, but it wasn’t too bad for a first effort. I’m pretty sure at least a little of it did get into her belly, which isn’t always the case with the wee ones, so I think we’ll call it a success.

Isolde is still not keen on it. Well, she wants to eat but hasn’t figured out the swallowing part yet. But I realised it goes down better if I heat it more, it was too cool for her before.
