Homeward bound, slowly

After two full days at Legoland, it was time to head back to Copenhagen, but we were still determined to get rid of our dirty laundry first (perhaps even more determined, as the two bags had become three), so on Monday morning we again made the long walk to the center of town. We didn’t have any rain to contend with, but we did have all of our luggage with us, so I wouldn’t say it was much more fun than the first time, but we did finally get the laundry sent off — after Olof stood in line with it for a half-hour and then had to run out and find an ATM because apparently the Danish post office doesn’t take foreign credit cards. Weird.

We got back to Copenhagen in the late afternoon and ate dinner at Domino’s Pizza (oh, how I’ve missed you, Domino’s) before setting out to find our hotel, about a kilometer’s walk from the train station. We had a bit of bother when we arrived and discovered that a group of guys had shown up to the hotel earlier in the day and claimed the apartment we’d reserved. After much back-and-forth telephoning between the reception desk and Olof and some official person elsewhere (?), the interlopers were sent packing and we were shown to our rightful quarters, so it all turned out well enough, but I was a little creeped out by the whole thing.

Once all of that was sorted, we decided to take a walk around the neighborhood and see what there was to see, so we loaded up the younger kids while Lydia stayed behind for some family-free time. We found a great little park and the kids got to run around a bit and burn off some excess energy (how they had any to spare after all that walking I’ll never understand, but whatever), then we stopped by a 7-11 (I told you, they’re everywhere down there) for some snacks before heading back to the hotel and our beds.

  1. They don’t take foreign credit cards at all, or they didn’t used to but more and more places do now. Peter was there maybe three years ago and the only place that took his card was a McDonald’s. But when I was there in October it was much better.
