No, no, not that. I told you, I’m done in that department.
But not, I hope, in the history department. Uppsala University’s history department, that is.
(Yeah, I know that was weak. Sorry.)
But. BUT.
It’s true, I’m applying to a master’s program there. When I was in college I always intended to go on to graduate school, but one thing and another got in my way and school has been on the back burner for years and years. Now that the kids are getting bigger and there are no more on the horizon, I’ve been thinking seriously about going back.
I started out looking for some distance programs, or even just a class or two, but didn’t find anything that really grabbed hold of me. In my wanderings, though, I happened upon a new program down in Uppsala, and reading the overview left me feeling almost giddy. I’m sure it sounds dry as dirt to lots of people (cough Olof cough), but it is right up my alley. It’s almost as though the program were designed with me in mind. Well, except for the fact that it’s more than 700 kilometers (~450 miles) away. And there are no distance options.
And yet.
After a little email exchange with the program director and less than a day’s deliberation, I decided to go for it. It’s just too right not to. The logistics are going to be a challenge, to put it mildly, but we’ll cross that bridge next fall, assuming I get in. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Good luck! I did my Masters in Uppsala and had a lot of fun. Then again, my idea of fun tends to run towards bars and parties. But I did learn a lot! David (husband dude) studied history in Uppsala as well as part of his teaching degree. 🙂
Congrats! I just went back at 46 years old with 14 year old twins and I am LOVING it! You’ll have a ball . .
Cool! Congratulations!
