We’re very last-minute at Mosaic Minds this time around and there’s a bit of a frenetic feel in the air for all of us. The saving grace is that each of us seems to be as bad as the next when it comes to pushing the limits of the deadlines, so there aren’t any resentments or recriminations adding further stress to the situation.
Our upcoming theme is “Fears and Phobias,” which ties in nicely with Halloween’s imminent arrival, but we are unfortunately lacking somewhat when it comes to feature articles. I did get a fantastic submission early this morning from a friend in the States, and I was able to arrange what I know will be an outstanding interview with another friend for the “Chick Pick” column, so I feel pretty good right now about how the features section will round out.
The big surprise this time has been the Prose section, with five solid fiction pieces. That’s the most we’ve ever had, and I’ve actually got a few more pieces lined up for future issues. I think we’re finally getting a good base of fiction writers, and maybe our reputation is spreading a bit, too. For a while we were getting so few nibbles that I was a little worried about whether that section would ever take off. I’m feeling much more confident about it these days.
All that said, if any of my faithful readers has an idea for a story–fact or fiction–I’d love to see it. Email me at beverly @ mosaicminds.net (remove spaces, of course).
