This blurry photograph shows my front yard this morning. Yes, THIS morning. In the second week of January. In northern Sweden. If I didn’t know better, I could easily think it was taken in April (or even early May, to be honest).
What’s even stranger is that it’s not an untimely thaw; rather, this is all the winter we’ve had so far. We have had a little snow here and there, but I’d guess that we haven’t gotten more than six inches all together, and certainly none of it has stuck around for longer than a day or so. We’ve gotten plenty of rain, however, so there’s no need to worry about the water reserves.
I’m assured that in the coming days it will finally get cold — thus far we’ve rarely had temperatures colder than a couple of degrees below freezing — and we may even see some snow. I can’t say that I’ll welcome it, particularly, but I know plenty of people around here who will.
I am tired of them complaining on the radio about the lack of snow for the skiing slopes on Hallandsås… let the Danes go somewhere else to ski – I LOVE being able to drive without the added hindrance of snow and I hate following snowploughs up Hallandsås on the way home from school 🙂
Yep, I could do with a mild winter as well. I love not having to scrape car windows all the time!
And…here in Illinois it has been the most wintry of winters since the beginning of December. Cold, snow, snow and more snow…and in the last few days we had a high temperature of -11 F. I think they said the coldest stretch in 20 years. And we’ve had a couple feet of snow. Yes, snow is pretty…but I love that mild winter look of your picture. Is the lack of snow a bit of disappointment for your kids?
I really miss the snow as it lightens up what is otherwise a drab, grey landscape in January. I’m actually looking forward to snow rather than rainfall on the weekend.
