I noticed at lunch that we were running short on milk and had completely used up the dishwasher soap, so after we were done eating, Tage, Petra, Brynja, and I took a short walk to the grocery store. It was clear and sunny and warm outside, and the snow is completely gone from the streets and walkways, so it was a nice–if brief–outing.
There’s a river that runs through our town, and the store and our house are on opposite sides of it. As we crossed the wooden bridge on our way home, I noticed little vapor puffs coming up between the planks, so faint that at first I wasn’t entirely certain that I was seeing clearly. Back home, I took the garbage out after putting the groceries away, and found the entire neighborhood covered in a thick, low-lying fog that lasted all evening. Now the temperature has dropped below freezing again, and I’m fearing that the past two spring-like days were but a cruel, lingering April Fool’s prank.
