Spring comes to northern Sweden

I do believe it’s safe to say that we’ve finally seen the last of winter, at least for a few months. We’ve had several days in a row now of clear, blue skies, and the snow is receding, if a bit slowly for my taste (we’ve still got a six-foot-high pile of snow in our front yard, but the streets and sidewalks are clear and dry, which counts for a lot). The temperature has consistently been above freezing, I’ve forsaken my snowboots, and I’ve even taken to leaving the house without a jacket now and then.

Saturday evening Olof and I went to town to have dinner, and on our way home I snapped these pictures from the car. That’s a lake there, in the foreground, and as you can see there’s still a ways to go until spring takes hold there. It’s coming, though. I can feel it in the air.

  1. We had it. Honestly – a few weeks ago there was nary a snow mound to be found and it even hit over 20C on Sunday. I was feeling all hopeful and motivated. Now we’re enduring a never ending snow storm. It’s been snowing since Friday and I’m afraid that it may not stop. The depression is coming back….
p.s. – happy belated b-day. Hope you had a great one.

  2. I saw that over at your blog — wow. I’m hoping I didn’t speak too soon in declaring spring here, and I really hope, for all your sakes, that it makes its way to you sooner, rather than later. I understand too well what you mean about the depression. 🙁
