Last week marked the return to real life after a long holiday break, and we were busy, busy, busy. Lucy had an appointment at the vet scheduled for Monday morning — her eye still hasn’t healed, nearly three months later — but a dead car battery prevented me from making it there. I tried to call and let them know we wouldn’t make it, but after not being able to get through a couple of times I sent an email. Later on I got a somewhat testy call from the receptionist wondering where we were. I explained, and though she wasn’t much mollified she did let me reschedule for Friday and didn’t charge me for not showing up.
When Olof came home he put the battery charger on the car and got that all sorted out and Tuesday morning I was off to a doctor’s appointment of my own. I got done just in time to meet Olof for lunch, and though it was brief, it was nice to have a bit of time with just the two of us.
Wednesday and Thursday Olof stayed home from work so I could write my essay, and I spent some long, intense hours getting that finished. Thursday evening Tage and I were off to violin class, where, I’m sorry to say, I finally took the step that’s been a long time coming and told his teacher that Tage wanted to quit. This entire school year it’s been a huge struggle to get him going with the violin, and ultimately we all had to conclude that it’s just not worth the hassle. We’re going to try to switch him over to the traditional lessons here at school, but as of last week, Suzuki lessons are a thing of the past for us.
Friday we made it to the veterinarian as scheduled, and it looks like there is some small measure of improvement to Lucy’s eye, at last. It’s still going much more slowly than the vet would like, so we got another round of antibiotic eye drops, as well as a steroid and some other eye drop. We take her back in next week and see how it’s going. I keep telling Yrsa that she’s going to have to get a job to pay for all these vet bills, but she’s not fazed.
